my arch nemisis pt deux

here he is again....

after scaring the crip outta me on saturday! he had appeared mid studio hiding behind a cupboard door that was open.. I of course yelled and he scarpered, at which point I notice he's been in the wars.. the end of his tail is missing and amazingly two days later it has almost healed over and now has a ridiculous looking stub tail. Anyhoo this is his morning spot corner of the studio.

This wkd was some garden work and as a result rather sore today. As the rain water tanks were getting low it is prime opportune time to move them all together which involved emptying the end tank into the green tank.. moving the end tank about a meter and moving the water back from the green tank. It's inpromptu stand is made from a bunch of old pavers, the replumbing and levelling is done all apart from the tap that broke off the green tank
in process of the move and do you think I can find a replacement to fit!! of course not, the ebay search was random so I gonna try to source it locally, that or but a $2 tap from china in the hope it will fit. My biggest drama at the mo is rain is expected next wkd and i'd rather like to get some tanks filled.. grrr

I did have a hopeful moment that saturdays work would be done and I could get on with some print and glaze work but here they sit still.. maybe later today after work..

I was super happy with the last glaze firing and made it to cone 6 very pleasantly surprised! thank you lovely kiln :)) The new colour combos are a hit and a full range is now required to stock my favourite shop in town!

and more work awaiting bisque for this months show! must get in there this week and finish the throwing sessions.. It always depends on my freelance work load and last week was particularly busy and difficult, hopefully upping the vitamins will help with recovery seem to be working so far waking up with the sun :)) nice change..

ahhh saturday...

Ahh Saturday time to drink tea and catch up on the last week or so... the lovely photos above are from 'from the collection' at Gallery 1855 by my friend Derek McClure check out his blog.

There's been a spate of exhibition openings locally which is a good thing, we just have to get the word out to a wider audience and then I think we will truly be in Adelaide's map for Artsists..
Gallery 1855 has some top work it it at the mo and HIVE has a local young artist Lisa Lukacs getting out there too.. and Fringe buzz has just begun Neville Assad-Salha has a show at Glenelg Discovery Centre so heaps to see..

I got my printing on this week too... inspired by watching an Andy Warhol Documentary!
I got heaps of lil birdie and Big birdie with Giraffe fella printed and set to glazing some of the new wares. I just grabbed a couple of beakers off the top shelf of the kiln, it's still 300 degC in there! too darn hot for unloading but hey they need to be out so I can pack my car for market tomorrow..
and thats about it, I still have to get my shino on for next months show at Milan Rouge so that will be next week depending on my work load really.. anyhoo happy wkd all

general buzz...

It seems I did a terrible job of documenting the opening for 'from the collection' @ Gallery 1855, hopefully my bud derek will come thru with some photos :P
It was a good night, although a mite stressful after looking after mum all day it was either a bout of gastro or food poisoning from a 'free lunch out' - free is never free..
Anyhoo there was a great turnout and the show looked good even if things had been a tad tweaked from when I left them.....hmmm slightly frustrating.
There were some very interesting chats with local artists and a general buzz about possibilities, so we shall see where the rest of 2013 takes us, ARTAG is a 2 year term and it's all very new, things could be great or they could be average only time will tell.

really course body..mm
So here's a little of what I've been up to, most things are bisqued now and a few efforts of throwing in between 'nursing' this week.
I'm currently working towards a body of work for Artist of the Month at MILAN ROUGE in Stirling. My make wish list is below and if I plan it right this week will be productive.

Some tiles in progress too all bisqued up..

And the usual run of lidded jars, beakers a few plates to try some printing on and the teapots waiting for glaze.

I think this list is going to keep me busy for this week or 2
plus the tagine plans need to be made I want to make some formers so that they are the same at wet weight and hopefully all the lids will fit each other, since they will be in a commercial kitchen it's kinda necessary. I'm still nutting out how I will make the guides or template for this, I have considered making a base mould but am concerned about the weight and already having some wrist issues this really needs some serious thought.
Sis and I headed out to a travel expo today gathering all sorts of holiday info for my birthday this year, it is a 'biggy' and a few ideas are brewing, hehehehee..

selected - from the collection. sneak peak

Here's a little something I've been part of the team working on this week... Thursday's effort definitely took the stuffing out of me!! Absolutely zonked by the time I got home.. lifting and schlepping plinths around, arranging the 3 galleries and rearranging them.

There's a whole bunch of things that need to be considered in a local government gallery.. we have a disabled access ramp so peeps need to be able to scoot around and turn around again, unless they have reverse  for heading back up the ramp space..

This week another gallery in town closed its doors.. The greenhill gallery has been a staple in north adelaide since forever! I can remember popping in one day as a bunch of first year Uni students in our first weeks playing hooky heading out for lunch and checking in on a friends associate at the gallery.. we were looking at Pro Harts famous Ant paintings and She was telling us how he cut them into a load of smaller paintings...I remember thinking what!! Now it's no surprise and regarded as savvy if you can turn a $ selling your art.

Anyhoo it's looking pretty cool while Bec and Niki did the measuring and lining all the paintings up. Myself and Rae moved, cleaned, stuck and jiggled all the ceramics in place. I had notions of buying shares in blue and white tac :P It's been rather great looking at the works over the last 20 years from the collection and how many of them I remember in the Competitions, they are all 1st prize winners and hence acquired by the Council. Most pieces have another piece by the Artist as a comparison piece of work some created many years since and some really fresh. This is a really nice look back at a very successful Arts Event that just last year was canned. And a little recent news on that the local Lions club are in discussions to take that Competition over but we'll see how that pans out.

So the final tweaks of the show will be friday and early next week..
the opening is Wednesday Night at 6pm
