open studio day...
So i'm just checking in today to update my blog for my open studio which is saturday and by now you'll have your invite by hand, email or facebooked if you're in adelaide and to anyone else i've missed here's your invite....
I do check in on stats every now and then and todays well i just like the numbers 70747 page views and 566 posts.... who would've thought, well not me when i started this journal way back in 2007 that i'd still be doing it.
obviously blogger has some things going for it apart from those dodgy comment moderation that usually takes me 3 goes to get right.. you'll notice i dont use them anymore! spam protection within blogger picks up most of the spam and for the odd few its easy to delete them..
anyhoo i'm setting up today under the verandah which is all surprisingly tidy after my post birthday bash the other wkd... i should do that every year!!
so 2 kilns to unload today and some fresh new earthenware and midfired pieces to grace the display tomorrow.. drop in between 10am-4pm or otherwise if we've pre arranged a visit.
next year i plan to add another open studio in summer, I'll keep you updated..
must get on have a great friday all..

ew refires and hamada..
here's some of last weeks kiln load some are refires from the previous that i over fired and they had loads of tiny bubbles mostly inside the bowls..
so i sanded the bubbles reglazed and refired 40 degC lower and vwala!!all super and very happy, now to get the rest of those through this week as it's open studio on saturday, my once a year big day sale at my studio..
and hamada plate number two...what would hamada eat.... just a tiny pun and nod to the great ceramics hero Shoji Hamada, the other plate says what would hamada do..
today i'm printing some lil birdie and glazing a mid fire load and finally seeing some of the production line moving along.
I always have a few things on the go at the same time
the only problem being that occasionally i get a bit stuck and overloaded with work in the studio and really need to get a move on to make some space and finish things off...anyhoo off to work!!Wednesday, 7 November 2012
new old gallery 1855...
and there you have it the new, old gallery 1855 is open to the public all be it half the week at this stage and lets see after this exhibition how things flow with the rate system of hiring the space. some will be able to afford it and some won't.
yesterday was a day of old faces and new, i caught up with a fellow high schoolie and heaps of peeps from associations across the years.. it was a good day for that a bit of schmoozing and a bit of work.. ARTAG conducted the tours which ran rather smoothly but really what could go wrong :P and who sticks to the scrip anyway!! unfortunately the holding cell was locked up so we couldn't get into any trouble there! you can see it in the window below its the tall skinny window with a bar running up it, its a very tiny room but has an incredibly high ceiling and a very nice view... so a little history the building was the very first council chambers built in SA in 1855 and in formerly known as the district of highercombe, the main gallery was the original council room and 'jail' hence the holding cell, the building has been left in a really bad way for years and used by the SES and the CFS fire services.
hopefully we look after it better now...
the renovation was funded by federal funds, state funds and local council too, its at stage 2 now so hopefully another wing does get added for it to function as a true gallery and arts centre in the future..

will it be gallery 1855...
so will it be gallery 1855 or hills edge? I know i would prefer a name in this century but words have been played with on the official trail but who cares really as long as this place gets up and running and serves as a gallery for local artists and adelaide wide really!!
there's 3 great rooms well 2 great rooms and an entry room, anyhoo it will be great when it's all alive with work and lit well..
so tomorrow melbourne cup day is the launch day and everyone knows here the nation stops for a horse race!!! quite a phenomenon really Melbourne cup day...yes we have named it, anyhoo I always end up working while others head out for lunch..
so this is it, the opening exhibition, local artists got to enter this one for free and the work is all tagged hung or placed and catalogued, hopefully tomorrow the rain will pass and todays humid storm aside, all will be well for the launch...
hey check out the pics, i'll get more tomorrow but the crack up really is the art work room that has kiddy seats and not much in the way of adult furniture or functional art spaces but we'll work on that!!
I might do a video tour if I feel inspired tomorrow or maybe not :P
above is Barbara Davis' piece she a fellow local glass artist..
oh this is the messenger press guy running out the door after rebecca photo bombed herself with bunny ears can't wait to see that image :P
the central gallery space
Russell our local framer and artist, Rebecca fellow ARTAG member artist round table advisory group ( planned by my bud Vesna who previously worked at Cof TTG) and Rae from tea tree studio
Panda...a local celebrity and also the loo wall!!
Today, I have seen better days but mood and issues stick up their ugly heads all the time.... the challenge is to leave behind the crap and tomorrow is a new day, hey!!!!! or maybe more of the same
