2 market 2 market

and these pics are from stirling market today much cooler about 20c up there..the lovely colourful set up we have with our neighbours who both have clothing ranges, raj prints organic cotton tshirts, made his own canopy and makes great letterboxes, and fernando has silk scarves shoes and an array of other clothing items and jewelery.... rose had another kiln load of new work some dragonfly motifs coming through on the noodle bowls... i'm really happy with the new boxes and shelf setup for the display it worked well today..

saturday was a very warm one about 34c and quite windy for the waldorf school fair at mt barker, rose went off to get coffee and came back with a tray full of goodies, we had cakes with cream and well not the cappucino we would have liked but coffee it was but no candles obviously the coffee peeps weren't informed about my birthday...

plastered

for cynthia, here's the plaster carved pieces i was talking about.. they're carved when the plaster is quite damp still that make the marks easier to make.. yep my continued vintage car theme, grandpa also recurring and dinner time items that haven't really made it big into my repertoire ...

I 'm back on track today and know it because i have 4 things on the go at once.....

I did several car plates today they are slipped with copper, the oval dish is an oversized slump plate mold impressed with a wooden stamp, the last pic is a mold of a dog ball I made years ago......a fun week planned  ahead to play with my molded pieces, a tent peg, seed pods and the ball!...

The table is also taking shape with most tiles in their place, now the drying continues under weights...

with respect

Hi all, I had some tragic news on sunday about the client who commissioned the 2 tuscan themed table tops, John Monaghan died suddenly last weekend. It has taken me a back and even though I only met him a few times he has left quite an impression.. and with respect to John the work will be continued on to fulfill his dream of making his house a home filled with lovely art. Along with fellow clubee Barb who has created some lovely paintily glass windows to be inserted into doorways we will complete the work that John had commissioned and fill his home with colour and impressions of artist past.

point of view

A trip to lyndoch today to pick up the remainder of my work was fairly uneventful, the canola crops are flowering and not a roo insight just sheep and cattle some very exotic looking with horns and all.. I started noticing just how many signs there are telling you where to go, what's coming up next, what might be coming up, slow down speed up...roos, trucks, bends, stop sign ahead, which really amused me, a sign telling you there's about to be a sign...

lists

I just read this on Jean's - art it blog and it reminded me of a similar list I read years ago about pottery on Chris Barnes original site when he was at the chocolate factory in UK.. it makes me chuckle because these lists are so true.. I must dig that one up and post it, i remember it being quite extensive..

HOW TO FEEL MISERABLE AS AN ARTIST

This list courtesy of Keri Smith

1. Constantly compare yourself to other artists.
2. Talk to your family about what you do and expect them to cheer you on.
3. Base the Success of your entire career on one project.
4. Stick with what you know.
5. Undervalue your expertise.
6. Let money dictate what you do.
7. Bow to societal pressures.
8. Only do work that your family would love.
9. Do whatever the client/customer/gallery owner/patron/investor asks.
10. Set unachievable/overwhelming goals to be accomplished by tomorrow.

rollin, rollin, rollin

Here's the process wack a bag full of clay on the slab roller and smash all the agro out of it with a wooden mallet, rather fun really.. I'm using the original mock drawing pattern to trace from and the weather is fairly mild at the mo so I should be ok to get this table marked out and cut over this week.. I'm weighting the tiles down under ware boards as it dries and shrinks pre decoration this part is very important to keep the tiles flat during the drying stage. More this weekend....

le table

I got started on the rather large tile project today and didn't quite get as far as i'd like, oh well it's a start once I get my head around it i'll be fine. Just cutting and fitting and working out shrinkage calculations to fit an existing table top it's quite a challenge... I forgot to take pics so this is one of the mockup and i'll get some pics of the real thing on the wkd.

Also daylight savings starts this wkd so we'll either be 1 hr closer or further apart depending on your time zone..
