raku october......

well stunning day!! great company!! and everyone getting involved...
we had a good day of sunshine, hayfever and smokin raku!!!

a few refires but we reckon with a hole drilled into the big beast and a pyro inserted we should be able to fix most of the issues... We also need to watch the placement of matt and glossy glazes as they appear different in red heat so you cant tell who's melted..

but overall a good day i tried some of annas glaze recipes looking for a green/blue and came out with a full on turquoise on the test pieces, maybe just a bit thinner i'll test that one again soon... and some of my pieces the glaze was too thick and it fused to the surface..so note too self thicker slip and 1 thinish layer of glaze for the shell..

i'll be looking out for that article on oxidisation and raku glazes, i have a feeling it may have been at ceramic materials website, let ya know Trace and Peter, cheers all have a good week...

  4. Fun seeing the firing in progress. Did you have a good firing with the little wood fired dustbin (trashcan) kiln that you were lighting? I had been thinking of making one of those. I like your black and white bottles with the carbon patterns. Really nice. I can see that looking into a top hat drum kiln to check glaze melt can be an eye watering experience! Did you have the magpies for supper?!
